The wood for stump tables is affordable (usually free!).  In this post I’ll show you some low-cost, easy-to-make DIY furniture leg options for your stump table.  Of course, the legs can be used in other furniture projects, too!

I don’t have that much carpentry experience, and I’ll tell you a secret–I’m not sure I want too much.  What I mean is, if a furniture piece involves a compound miter saw and a table saw, lots of angled cuts, a long cut list (or any cut list), a pneumatic nailer, or generally something complex, it probably isn’t the project for me.  I admire fellow bloggers who can whip out a big farmhouse table or something similar.  But for many types of furniture builds, I like looking but not doing.  Are any of you in this situation?

Easy DIY Patriotic Crate Side Table

DIY patriotic red, white, and blue side table made with a crate turned upside down and wood legs.

This easy-to-make rustic side table is made of a wooden crate turned upside down and simple wooden legs that are attached inside the crate. I had fun decorating it with a red, white, and blue theme in honor of the Fourth of July holiday here in the States.  Decorated to your liking, it could be a lovely side table for use in a child’s bedroom, in a nook by the recliner, or even as a plant stand next to a sunny window.

Easy IKEA Hack Side Table: Frosta Stool + Aptitlig Chopping Board

DIY side table project ikea hack. Frosta stool legs and Aptitlig chopping board table top.

Here is another easy DIY side table and my first IKEA hack. (Well, it’s my second IKEA hack if you count the mid-century modern inspired cement replacement sofa legs. Check the cement legs project out here.) For this DIY furniture project I used the legs from an IKEA Frosta stool.  The IKEA Aptitlig chopping board made a great bamboo table top to go with the interesting Frosta bentwood legs.

When I started thinking about this project, I knew I wanted something easy.  It’s spring cleaning time, and the grass is growing and needs mowing.  Also, I was away from home and the blog for a while, visiting my sister who is recovering from a medical situation.  And of course, my husband and kids always need tending to.  So I needed an easy project.  In fact, I like the idea of easy projects so much that I’m making a new category called “Easy.”  These will be projects that can be done fairly quickly and involve mainly painting/staining (as options to your taste) and assembling by screwing or hammering things together.

The Side Table with Magazine Rack project has three parts:

  • Choose and prepare the table top
  • Choose and prepare the magazine rack
  • Attach the table top to the magazine rack
